Visakhapatnam Port’s Cargo Volume Reaches 58mn Tonnes During 2013-2014

News: The Visakhapatnam port in India handled more than 58mn tonnes of cargo during 2013-2014, reports Business Line. The port is likely to undergo two upgrade projects to enhance its efficiency in FY14. The two projects - extension of the exiting container terminal and the modernisation of the iron ore handling complex - have been awarded to Visakha Container Terminal Private Limited and Essar Ports. These projects are expected to support the Visakhapatnam port, which has previously enjoyed first position in the all-India rankings. However, tough competition from neighbouring ports and ongoing projects at the port have affected cargo handling at the facility.
