Ulthera gets approval to market ultrasound platform in Mexico

Ulthera has been given the green light to market and distribute its patented Ulthera ultrasound system in Mexico. Arfamex, a distributor of ophthalmology and dermatology devices in Mexico, will act as the exclusive distributor of the system.

The Ulthera system, which combines ultrasound imaging with focused ultrasound therapy, is prescribed to produce stimulation in tissues to raise the temperature in a localised manner for aesthetic, non-invasive use. The procedure encourages the natural formation of collagen and elastin in the skin, giving it the ability to lift tissue. In Mexico, the technology will specifically be used to lift tissue on the face, neck, décolleté, knees and arms.

The ultrasound platform is already cleared by the FDA for the non-invasive treatment of the face to lift the eyebrow to achieve a desired aesthetic effect. Overall, it is commercially available in more than 35 countries worldwide.
