UK Supermarket Y-o-y Sales Decline During July-August 2013

News: The sales growth of UK supermarkets declined sharply during the four weeks leading to August 17 2013, compared to the corresponding period in 2012, Talking Retail reports. Aggregate sales value growth during the period was 1.4% year-on-year (y-o-y), a huge fall from the 6.4% recorded in the previous year. Nielson, who put together the results, confirmed that the fall in sales is distorted slightly, as last summer featured the London Olympics, which saw millions of people descend on the UK during the period. Food inflation was also at its lowest rate since August 2010.
