News: Electric car company Tesla is still unclear about when to begin operations in China, reports Gasgoo. The US firm needs to fit a series of requirements as part of approval procedures in China in order to secure regulatory approval. Tesla also has to apply for import automobile certification and secure the lithium-battery certification.
BMI View: The recent worsening pollution in China may force the government to introduce hybrid subsidies; something which it had previously avoided owing to the focus on pure electric vehicles. Toyota has committed to hybrid battery production in the country, further bolstering our view, given that even automakers believe in a possible shift in government policy in the near term.
