News: Japanese brewer Suntory has launched an own-brand green tea - Mirai - in Indonesia. Sales of Mirai, which is already available in Thailand, began in Indonesia in late-September 2012 through Suntory Garuda Beverage. The company has modified three varieties of the green tea - Original, Honey and Sakura - to suit Indonesian tastes. The company aims to target Indonesia's increasing health conscious population through the new green tea.
BMI View: Rising health awareness among Indonesian consumers will serve to boost tea value sales, with herbal, green and white tea gaining in popularity. Value growth in the tea sector will also be stimulated by continuous promotional product launches and marketing efforts by local industry players in the flavoured tea category, with the sales of these higher-priced, higher-value products providing a much stronger boost to margin growth.
