State To Tax Global OTT Providers

News: The Brazilian government plans to tax on over-the-top (OTT), video on-demand (VOD) and other global internet service providers in the country, including Facebook, Google, NetFlix and Apple. The tax is aimed at reducing market imbalances and establishing equalities among operators offering similar services. Brazil's telecoms regulator, Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (Anatel), and Agência Nacional do Cinema, have been directed by the government to work on the regulatory framework required to implement the tax changes, expected to be imposed in early 2014.
