Salah Port’s Expansion To Be Finalised In 2013

News: The final decision to construct additional berths at the Port of Salalah in Oman will be taken by 2013, according to Salalah Port Services CEO Peter Ford. The expansion project is estimated to cost around US$450mn and will add three more berths - seven, eight and nine - to the existing six container berths in the facility. The expansion will increase the total container handling capacity of the port to 9mn twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) from the present 6mn TEUs. The expansion plan will be enforced if the port continues to grow on a regular basis, Ford added. The authorities will aim to complete the proposed project by 2015.
