Rusumo Bridge And Border Post Construction Nears Completion

News: Construction of Rusumo international bridge and One Stop Border post in Rwanda nears completion, according to Rwanda's State Minister for Transport Alex Nzahabwanimana (allAfrica). The RWF22bn (USD23.09mn) project, which is 81.6% complete, is being financed by the government of Japan. The project is likely to be completed before November 2014 and will boost cross-border movements between Rwanda and Tanzania. 'The construction of the new Rusumo Bridge will help address the challenge of increased traffic on the central corridor, an important regional route connecting the region to the port of Dar es Salaam,' Nzahabwanimana said. Upon completion, the project will help reduce traffic congestion and increase the efficiency of cargo transportation. The new bridge, which will be 80m long and 13.5m wide, will have the capacity to support 180 tonnes from the existing capacity of 53 tonnes.
