Regulator Launches Transmission Link Tender

News: The UK's energy regulator Ofgem launched a GBP400mn (US$667mn) tender for the construction of high-voltage transmission links that will connect the 210MW Westermost Rough and 219MW Humber Gateway wind parks to the UK power grid. The tender will determine one offshore transmission owner for each project and will be guaranteed income from the transmission projects for 20 years. The 210MW wind project is owned by Danish power company DONG Energy's unit WMR and features 35 turbines that will generate enough electricity to power 200,000 households. The plant is expected to be completed in Q315. The 219MW Humber Gateway wind project is owned by German energy company E.ON and will feature 73 wind turbines that will help produce enough electricity to power about 170,000 local households. The facility is expected to be completed and operational in 2015.
