PSQ’s Cargo Handling Volume Up 12.4% In 2012

News: Oman's Port Sultan Qaboos (PSQ) registered a 12.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase in cargo volume to 12.3mn freight tonnes (FRT) in 2012, compared with 10.9mn FRT in 2011. The rise in volume was attributed to an increase in general expenditure and the investment in development projects according to Mohammed Jawad bin Hassan bin Suleiman, the chairman of the board of directors for PSQ. Meanwhile, the port recorded a 13.6% y-o-y jump in operating revenues to OMR21.9mn (US$56.71mn) in 2012, compared with OMR19.3mn (US$49.98mn) in the year-ago period. General cargo imports at the port climbed 59.6% y-o-y to 404,773 FRT in 2012, up from 253,576 FRT in 2011.
