Port Workers Strike Over Pay Freeze Decision

News: Port authority workers in Italy called for a strike on December 5, reports the International Transport Workers' Federation. The workers - represented by the Federazione Italiana Lavoratori Trasporti FILT-CGIL, Federazione Italiana Trasporti-CISL and Unione Italiana dei Lavoratori dei Trasporti (UILTRASPORTI) - are protesting against a government pay freeze decision. The government has been requested to reverse the decision to freeze salaries as part of its austerity measures. The move not only breaches the rise in wages stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement, but the workers are forced to pay back the wage hike that they received since January 2012.
