P&O Maritime FZE To Provide Services At Maputo Port

News: UAE-based port operator DP World's subsidiary, P&O Maritime FZE, has been hired at Mozambique's Port of Maputo to provide maritime services, reports Macauhub. Under the agreement, the company will offer management, piloting, mooring and maintenance services at the port. The company will deploy the latest generation equipment at the port and will give training to local staff over a period of 10 years.

The Port of Maputo already serves Mozambique's landlocked neighbours Swaziland, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Malawi, and competes with South African ports to be the hub for exporting the South African towns of Johannesburg and Pretoria's manufacturing, mining and smelting industries. Mozambique's port sector has suffered from considerable underinvestment after a prolonged civil war, which was followed by a period of weak economic growth.
