Pipeline To Pass Through Conservation Area

News: Canadian contractor TransCanada Pipelines's proposed USD12bn Energy East oil pipeline project is set to pass through the Baxter Conservation Area, south of Ottawa. TransCanada plans to retrofit its underused 3,000km Canadian Mainline natural gas pipeline to enable it to carry crude oil from Alberta's oilsands to refineries on Canada's east coast. Up to 1.1mn barrels of oil are expected to flow through the pipeline every day. A 1,400km pipeline extension is also being considered to carry oil till Saint John. The pipeline is expected to start carrying oil as early as in 2017.
