Nokia Retains Top Spot In UAE As Apple's iPhone Slips

News: Finnish telecoms company Nokia has retained its position as the top telecoms company in the UAE, reports ZDNet. According to figures released through the UAE's Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA), the company's share of the UAE mobile market reached 56% in Q213, up from 50% in Q113. South Korean telecoms company Samsung also increased its share from 10.7% in Q112 to 13.8% in Q213, while Blackberry's share has remained at 10.7% in Q112 and Q113. US technology company Apple's share of the market in the UAE has fallen from 8.4% to 7.4% as its iPhone 4S has slipped out of the top five.

BMI View: Consumer and business sentiment towards the UAE has improved significantly since the start of 2013, as reflected by the growth in the real estate and equities markets, as well as strong take-up of high-value telecoms services. This is driving growth in the consumer electronics market, with leading international and local manufacturers introducing new products across different segments and expanding their distribution channels. We expect this trend to continue in the latter part of 2013 and beyond as the country exhibits strong political and economic stability.
