News: Japanese automaker Nissan Motor will provide 28 all-electric e-NV200 vans to British Gas until April 2014 as part of a testing programme to determine the future viability of 100% electric vehicle technology. The partnership is run in collaboration with Hitachi Capital Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Gateshead College. Nissan has been globally piloting the e-NV200 electric vehicle for two years before its planned launched in the UK market in 2014.
BMI View: BMI believes that fuel-efficiency will become increasingly important across all markets, especially as fuel costs rise. We expect to see more joint ventures between auto manufacturers to achieve this aim. Furthermore, we believe that governments and international bodies will have an increasingly important role in collaborating with auto manufacturers to reduce carbon emissions.
