News: The provincial government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in Pakistan is scheduled to launch the required tenders for the construction of Hazara Expressway in the next two months, reports the Express Tribune. The statement was made by K-P Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain during the K-P provincial assembly session on September 4 2012. The expressway, which will provide route to Gilgit-Baltistan, will connect Mansehra, Kohistan, Batagram, Shangla and Abbottabad districts. An amount of PKR1.4bn (US$14.64mn) has already been used to purchase the required land to build the 22km expressway, Hussain added. However, work on the remaining portion of the road will restart after a PKR400mn (US$4.18mn) payment to land owners is made, Hussain mentioned. Discussions held after issues were raised by Javed Abassi, a member of the provincial assembly, over undue delay in the development of the expressway.
