News: A consortium of Polimex and a unit of Hitachi Power has secured clearance for a contract to construct a coal-fired unit for Enea in Poland, reports Reuters, citing Enea's Deputy CEO Krzysztof Zborowski. The approval for the PLN6.3bn (US$1.8bn) contract was given by the country's chamber of appeal on July 27 2012. The unit, which is to be built in Kozienice, will have a power generation capacity of 900-1,000MW. The project is an important part of the country's investment programme, aimed at accommodating increasing power demand.
BMI View: Poland's energy and utilities infrastructure industry is estimated to have accounted for 40.6% of Poland's total infrastructure in 2011, equal to PLN25.1bn (US$8.5bn). The sector's share of total infrastructure investment has increased steadily. However, going forward, it is forecast to stabilise at around 41%, reaching no more than 42.4% by the end of our forecast period in 2021.
