News In Brief: Majors Targeting Gas Play

News: Several major oil companies, including Royal Dutch Shell and ExxonMobil are willing to participate in the development of gas fields in Mozambique, reports Reuters. According to Tavares Martinho, exploration director at Mozambique's state-run Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos, there is strong interest in an offering of exploration areas that is scheduled to be announced by end-October 2012. The upcoming licensing round will give the companies an opportunity to bid for the exploration right to deepwater areas in the Rovuma Basin and offshore areas of the Zambezi Delta, Martinho added.
