News: The government of Qatar has launched a plan to inject US$254mn to reconstruct and modernise Gaza, the Palestinian enclave that was destructed nearly four years ago in a three-week military offensive by Israel, reports Reuters. The project was announced by Mohammed Al-Amadi, ambassador of Qatar, at a news conference. The project will entail the set up of a new town, renewal of three main roads, overhaul of the infrastructure and construction of a hospital and residential buildings. To transport building materials and heavy machinery to Gaza, which is under a partial blockade, the required cooperation of the governments of Israel and Egypt has been arranged. The work is expected to start within three months, starting with a highway along the Mediterranean coastal strip. Gaza and the lives of its 1.6mn people will be changed through the project.
