New Zealand Parliament Approves Patents Bill

News: New Zealand's parliament has approved the Patents Bill, which makes it clear, among other things, that a bit code is not enough to secure patent protection, reports The Register. The bill, which took five years to be approved, saw local IT companies lobbying in favour of it while international firms such as Microsoft and Dell lobbied against it. The Patents bill will become law in August 2014 after receiving almost unanimous support in the parliament.
