New US reimbursement code for 24-hour IOP monitoring

The American Medical Association has approved a new CPT code for continuous monitoring of intraocular pressure (IOP).

The new CPT code, "0303XT: Monitoring of intraocular pressure for 24 hours of longer, unilateral or bilateral, with interpretation and report", will be effective 1st July 2013. This code comes in complement to CPT code "92100: Serial tonometry" and shall be used instead of code 92100 for monitoring of IOP for 24 hours or longer.

Sensimed sees the approval for a CPT code for 24-hour monitoring as an important milestone towards the commercialisation of its device, the Triggerfish, in the US. Triggerfish provides continuous 24-hour IOP profiles as well as modelling and analysis of IOP patterns to facilitate glaucoma treatment.
