Neglected Tropical Diseases Threaten Growth, Says Report
News: Indonesia has one of the highest concentrations of neglected tropical diseases in the world, with high rates of diseases caused by worms, bacterial infections and viral illnesses, according to a report in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). The report has warned that if Indonesia does not takes action the 'highly prevalent NTDs will delay the national aspirations for sustained economic growth', reports Asian Scientist. The planned attempt to reduce NTDs will include poverty reduction, disease control and measures for clean water and sanitation, and will receive foreign financial assistance. The country's major research institutes and organisations are expected to support and develop new diagnostics, drugs and vaccines for NTDs.
