News: Omani operator Nawras has rolled out a mobile data-roaming solution, dubbed Musafir. The mobile data-roaming solution will enable customers to stay online while travelling within the GCC. The offer is available via prepaid and postpaid plans with an option of daily or weekly rates. The plans would decrease data-roaming rates and make life simpler for business travellers and tourists. Customers can avail a daily plan with 100MB of data at OMR3 (US$7.7), while a weekly plan with 1GB of data costs OMR10 (US$25.8).
BMI View: The launch of the mobile data-roaming solution will enable Nawras to cater to the rising demand for mobile services in Oman. BMI estimates that there will be 5.4mn mobile subscribers in 2013 and expects the total to rise 4.2% by 2017 to 5.6mn. During this period penetration will decrease from 183.6% to 179.4%.
