Mobile Broadband Users Reach 3.47mn In Q412

News: Data published by Portugal's National Communications Authority (Ancom) revealed the number of mobile broadband users in the country reached 3.47mn in Q412. Out of the total, 978,000 users used a data card or a modem. TMN led the market in terms of subscribers, with a 40.5% share, followed by Vodafone Portugal and Optimus with 38.3% and 19.9% market shares, respectively. Meanwhile, the number of fixed broadband internet customers grew by 6.44% y-o-y and by 38,000 from Q312 to reach 2.3mn at end-2012.

BMI View: The data depicts the high growth potential for advanced mobile services in Portugal. BMI estimates that there will be 17.45mn mobile subscribers in 2013 and expects the total to rise 1.3% by 2017 to 17.68mn. During this period penetration will rise from 163.1% to 165.5%.
