News: Sweden's Ministry of Transport has announced a SEK55bn (US$8.4bn) national rail-network transport modernisation plan, which is aimed at upgrading rail lines, reports Lloyd's Loading List. The rail-infrastructure project mainly intends to improvise the Eastern Link rail-network between Järna and Linköping. The work on this project is scheduled to begin in 2017 with completion in 2028. The upgrade work also comprises a new branch in a bid to extend the line to Skavsta Airport. Meanwhile, the planned revamp of the Gothenburg-Borås and the Molnlycke-Bollebygd routes is likely to start in 2020 and conclude in 2024. This project will comprise a new branch line to Gothenburg's Landvetter Airport. This will result in a faster and more reliable rail-infrastructure that will cater to the requirements of rail-cargo users in a superior way, according to Sweden's Enterprise Minister Annie Löös.
