News: Canadian automotive parts supplier Magna International's wholly owned unit Magna Exteriors and Interiors (MEI) has started operations at its first facility in Romania. MEI's 100 employees manufacture bumpers and exterior trim components at the Craiova facility, which is located within the Ford Motor plant. Services offered at the new facility include injection moulding, painting and assembly.
BMI View: BMI believes that the entry into the Romanian market of component manufacturers is indicative of the influx of investment into Romania driven by both the attractiveness of a low-cost European production location and the recent establishment of manufacturing facilities by international auto manufacturers. New and revamped car production plants are attracting components makers and Constantin Stroe, the chairman of the Association of Automotive Manufacturers of Romania (ACAROM), claims that as many as 12 car part makers are currently looking at establishing facilities in the country.
