Likely Gap In World Cup, Olympics Room Rates

News: Hotel prices in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro during the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament could cost nearly 50% more than during the 2016 Olympics. According to news reports, FIFA's official accommodations agency, MATCH Services, has not set maximum room rates, while a limit was established in Rio's winning bid for the Olympic Games. That said, some in the hotel industry have noted that the cost difference is because more fans are expected during the World Cup than during the Olympics, and because more hotel rooms will be available during the 2016 games owing to ongoing building of facilities.
