Ecuador - State-owned subway operator Metro de Quito is scheduled to roll out a prequalification process for the establishment of the second phase of the planned metro project in Quito. The process will be launched before the expected tender for the second phase. Firms interested in taking part in the project's second phase will be required to go through the prequalification process.
Chile - The deadline to submit qualifications for the design and construction of southern region X's Chacao bridge project has been extended by Chile's public works ministry for a second time. The deadline for companies and consortiums interested in the prequalification process has now been shifted to December 21 2012.
US - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has awarded a contract to widen 2.6 miles of US Route 202 to six lanes in East Whiteland Township, Chester County in the US. The US$63.38mn contract was awarded to Allan A. Myers of Worcester, Montgomery County.
Poland - The provincial authorities in Lodzkie, Poland have granted a construction permit for the Strykow-Tuszyn section of the A1 motorway.
Vietnam - The metro line construction project in Hanoi, Vietnam is being hampered by several problems. The work is being affected by the shortage of skilled manpower and the lack of legal frameworks.
Vietnam - The Spanish government has announced that it would only provide 40% of the financing it had initially promised for an urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City.
Rwanda - The long awaited, and much debated, East Africa Community railway line is again in the limelight. Canarail, the Canadian consultancy firm hired to conduct the feasibility study, now estimates that the planned stretch connecting Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi would cost up to US$5.2bn and take four years to complete.
Philippines - The Philippine government is set to conclude cost verification for the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) project and the North Luzon and South Luzon Expressways (NLEx-SLEx) connector road project before end-2012.

Bangladesh - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide US$198mn in financial assistance to Bangladesh for the improvement of the Dhaka-Chittagong-Northwest transport corridor. Under the SASEC Road Connectivity Project, a 70km segment of the road is to be upgraded.

ENERGY & UTILITIES.
US - Yingli Green Energy Americas (Yingli Americas) has secured a supply contract for LS Power Group's Centinela Solar Energy Facility Project, located in Imperial County, in the US state of California. The company will deliver 200 megawatts (MW) of utility-scale solar photovoltaic modules for the project, which is to be completed in two phases.
India - A union government enterprise in India has given Thermax an order worth INR5.03bn (US$92mn) for it to set up a captive power plant to be used at an integrated steel plant in Chhattisgarh. The engineering, procurement and construction contract will see Thermax responsible for designing, engineering, constructing and commissioning the project on a turnkey basis.
Poland - Kulczyk Investments is likely to award a contract for its Elektrownia Polnoc power plant in the northern region of Poland in Q113.
Chile - German contractor Hochtief has secured a 70% share in a EUR215mn (US$280mn) contract for the construction of the Alto Maipo hydropower plant near Santiago in Chile. Chilean energy utility provider AES Gener, the owner of the plant, awarded the contract, which is Hochtief's third such contract in the energy infrastructure segment of South America.
Colombia - Swedish industrial equipment manufacturer Atlas Copco has been awarded a contract to supply equipment for the second phase of the country's largest hydropower project, Ituango.
Malaysia - Samsung Engineering & Construction has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a gas turbine power plant in Prai, Penang in Malaysia.
South Africa - Core Energy and Erika Energy have awarded ABB contracts worth approximately US$225mn to deliver two turnkey photovoltaic (PV) power plants scheduled to be constructed in Limpopo, South Africa. Under the contracts, the company will design, engineer, deploy and commission the two plants, which will have a power generation capacity of 33MW and 31MW respectively.
Chile - Chile's environmental evaluation service (SEA) office in north-central region IV has issued positive opinion for the 108MW Punta Sierra wind power project of Pacific Hydro in the country.
Philippines - Global Business Power Corporation is to begin work on construction the Toledo coal-fired power plant in the Philippines.
South Africa - South African petrochemicals company Sasol has started the production of electricity at its gas-powered plant in Sasolburg under the testing phase. The gas engine power plant has a power generation capacity of 140MW and it included an investment of ZAR1.9bn (US$215mn).
New project announcements
India - The Indian government is establishing a geothermal power project in Ladakh. The project, which will have a power generation capacity of three megawatts, will be the first of its kind in the country.
Iran - Iran is set to build a 163 megawatt power plant in Iraq to cater to the demand of the country's holy Shiite shrines. Around EUR75mn (US$98mn) has been allocated for the construction of the Heidariya power plant.
India - India-based tyre manufacturer Apollo Tyres is planning to set up a coal-based thermal power plant with an aim to fulfil its power needs. The plant is planned to be constructed at the company's facility in Oragadam in the city of Chennai.
India - Indian conglomerate Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) has announced plans to set up a 4,000MW coal-fired power plant near Mota Lyja in Kutchh district of Gujarat via its subsidiary, Nana Layja Power. The firm has even sought a long-term fuel supply from the Indian government for the project, scheduled to start in June 2017.

Australia - The BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance has awarded Thiess two contracts worth AUD220mn (US$230.3mn) for work in Australia. Under the contracts, the company will offer construction services for the Caval Ridge Mine Project in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland.
US - Swedish construction company Skanska has been awarded a contract to construct a modular building in Brooklyn, New York in the US. The B2 residential tower at the Atlantic Yards Project will have a total of 32 storeys and will be the country's tallest modular building. The project is valued at US$117mn and will be constructed for Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC).
Thailand - Thailand's Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) and Bangkok Land have reached a deal for 4.8 hectares of land to be used for the construction of a parking garage and maintenance depot for the Pink Line.
Laos - Laos has changed the design of the Xayaburi dam being built on the Mekong River, according to a spokesperson for the Vietnamese foreign ministry. The Vietnamese government has apparently withdrawn its opposition to the dam project, which will involve a total investment of US$3.5bn.
Cambodia - Electricity Vietnam International (EVNI) quit the Lower Sesan 2 dam project in Cambodia approximately two months ago.

Djibouti - The government of Djibouti has secured US$64mn in financial assistance from China Exim Bank for the construction of an ore terminal in Djibouti. The terminal is designed to ease the export of salt from the Lake Assal. The project is scheduled to be completed in two years by China Harbor Engineering Company.
