On 2nd April, I-Optics reported the successful closing of the second phase of a D financing round with an investment of EUR 5.1 million. This adds to EUR 6.7 million raised in 2012, bringing the D round to a total of EUR 11.8 million. The EUR 5.1 million funding was provided by new investors, namely HBM Partners and NIBC Bank. Also participating was the company's management.
The investment will allow the company to accelerate the global commercial launch of its two pipeline products: EasyScan,a retinal imaging camera that is designed to enable affordable diagnostic eye care worldwide; and Cassini, an accurate cornea topographer that is designed to help improve cataract surgery outcome and specialty contact lens fitting.
I-Optics recently opened offices in the US and Germany, and is preparing to enter the Chinese market. Dr Chandra P Leo, partner at HBM Partners and Robert Ian Oei, Managing Director at NIBC, will join I-Optics' Supervisory Board as a member and as an observer respectively.
