Hong Kong Port Registers 2% Fall In Cargo Volume

News: The Port of Hong Kong registered a 2% y-o-y fall in cargo volume to 69.4mn metric tonnes in Q312, reports the Journal of Commerce Online, citing the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. In the reported period, the port's imported cargo remained flat at 44.4mn tonnes, while exported cargo fell by 4% y-o-y to 32.1mn tonnes. The port handled 5.9mn twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in Q312, down by 7% y-o-y. Meanwhile, total port cargo throughput reached 223.8mn tonnes in January-September, down by 2% y-o-y. Additionally, inbound cargo and outbound cargo reached 129.1mn tonnes and 94.7mn tonnes respectively in the first nine months of 2012, down by 1% y-o-y and 2% y-o-y. Further, the port handled 17.5mn TEUs in January-September, down by 4% y-o-y.
