Government Secures ADB Loan To Support Power Programme

News: Pakistan has secured a USD400mn loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support its National Power Policy. The loan will support transmission, distribution, energy efficiency, cross-border natural gas pipelines, renewable energy and power generation projects. The policy, approved in July 2013, is designed to increase Pakistan's electricity production to 26,800MW and to promote public and private investment. The USD1.2bn programme will also encourage electricity imports from India, Iran and Central Asia. The World Bank and Japan will also provide some of the funding required for the programme.
