Government Doubles Wi-Fi Hotspots

News: Singapore's free public Wi-Fi network, Wireless@SG, has introduced a new automatic login feature, dubbed EAP-SIM, effective April 1. The new SIM card-based login feature will enable the public to automatically connect to any Wireless@SG hotspot using a compatible device with a local SIM card. Visitors in the country will also benefit from the new feature. From June 2014, visitors can register for a free account at any Wireless@SG hotspot. The login details will be sent to their foreign mobile numbers via SMS. Visitors can also buy a local prepaid SIM card that supports Wireless@SG from M1 and StarHub. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), with the support of Wireless@SG operators and venue owners, will roll out more hotspots gradually. The IDA will double the total number of hotspots to 10,000 by 2015 and to 20,000 by 2016.
