Government Blocks New Prosperity Mine Plan

News: The Canadian government has halted the development of Canadian copper producer Taseko Mines' New Prosperity copper and gold mine in British Columbia. The move comes after Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq concluded that the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects that cannot be mitigated. This is the second time in just more than three years that the government has blocked the mine plan. However, Taseko has the option to submit a new development proposal for the open-pit mine.
