Firm Gets Funding Approval For Fibre Expansion

News: Bangladesh Telecommunications Company (BTCL) secured funding approval from the government of Bangladesh to expand its high-speed fibre backbone network to nearly all 482 of the country's rural upazilas. The 'Upazila level fibre cable network development project' was approved by the executive committee of the National Economic Council. The expansion project is budgeted around BDT4.99bn (US$63.1mn), reports the Financial Express. BTCL's initial fibre network project covered 179 sub-districts. The new project is expected to cover an additional 290 sub-districts with fibre infrastructure by 2015.
