Experts Warn Europe Of Syria Polio Outbreak
News: Health experts have warned that a polio outbreak in Syria will pose a health threat in Europe. The warning comes as the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced a massive vaccination campaign to stop polio taking hold across the Middle East. The WHO has asked European countries to scale up their polio surveillance and make sure that vulnerable communities are vaccinated. European countries, including Austria, Ukraine and Bosnia Herzegovina, have relatively poor vaccine coverage and may be at risk of 'sustained transmission' if the virus is carried into the region by unvaccinated refugees travelling from Syria.
