News: Chilean telecoms operator Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Entel) registered an 11% y-o-y rise in revenue to CLP377.65mn (US$0.8mn) in Q113, compared with CLP340.32mn (US$0.72mn) in Q112. The increase was mainly driven by growth in mobile and data services. However, net profit for the quarter declined 29% y-o-y to CLP37.23mn (US$0.08mn), while EBITDA fell by 12% y-o-y to CLP124.07mn (US$0.26mn). The fall was owing to the implementation of a new accounting treatment of postpaid handsets. The total subscriber base expanded by 4% y-o-y to 10.13mn at end-Q113.
The operator is likely to focus investment on 4G services throughout H212 and 2013. Encouraging use of value-added services (VAS) will be driven by new products and particularly mobile broadband, which is a strong growth area.
