Ending Subsidies Produces Protests

News: Around 800 demonstrators gathered in Sudan's capital city of Khartoum on September 23 to protest against the lifting of oil subsidies by Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir. Oil prices at petrol stations in Khartoum increased to SDG21 a gallon on September 23 from SDG12, while gasoline rose from SDG8.5 a gallon to SDG14, according to petrol station staff. The price of a cylinder of cooking gas went up to SDG25 from SDG15. Bashir announced that the money saved will be used to support poor families and increase the wages of civil servants.
