Dubai International's Freight Volumes Down 2.5% In July

News: UAE's Dubai International Airport posted a 2.5% year-on-year (y-o-y) decline in freight throughput to 217,870 metric tonnes in July, reports the Journal of Commerce Online. However, freight volumes jumped 8.1% y-o-y to 1.52mn metric tonnes in the year-to-date period. A shift in cargo from Dubai International to the neighbouring Dubai World Central (DWC) may have resulted in the decline in freight volumes. The DWC posted a 144% y-o-y rise in volumes to more than 200,000 tonnes in 2012. Meanwhile, Emirates Skycargo intends to transfer its dedicated freight flights to a new base at DWC from May 2014. The new base will have an annual capacity of 700,000 tonnes.
