Cargo Volumes Register 3% Rise In 2013

News: Cargo volumes shipped in and out of the Philippines registered a 3% year-on-year (y-o-y) rise to 199.18mn metric tons (mt) in 2013, compared with 193.44mn mt in the year-ago period, reports Philippine Star, citing data from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA). In the reported period, cargo shipped within the country amounted to 76.77mn mt, up by 1.44% y-o-y, compared with 75.69mn mt in 2012. The rise in cargo volume was driven by exports and imports along with the sustained GDP growth recorded in the country, according to general manager of the PPA, Juan Sta Ana.
