Beirut Port Revenues Fall 0.4%


News: Revenue generated through Lebanon's port of Beirut registered a slight fall of 0.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) to US$2.7bn in 2013, reports iloubnan.info, citing figures released by the port. In the reported period, customs receipts generated through the port posted a 3.9% y-o-y drop to US$1.32bn, compared with US$1.38bn in 2012. Meanwhile, receipts from value-added tax slipped 0.3% y-o-y to US$1.15bn. However, the port registered a 25.4% y-o-y rise in overall revenues to US$219.1mn. In addition, the port posted a 14.4% y-o-y rise in freight handling to 8.3mn tons in 2013, compared with 7.2mn tons in the year-ago period.
