Barberton Mines Limited Uses 3D Laser Mapping System At Barberton Mines

News: South-Africa based Barberton Mines Limited has started using a ZEB1 hand-held laser mapping system to map excavations at the Barberton mines in Mpumalanga, South Africa. ZEB1, which has been developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and commercialised by UK-based 3D Laser Mapping, operates through a robotic technology dubbed Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM). The 3D mapping system allows a 3D measurement of mined out excavations at great depths. Barberton Mines Ltd Chief Surveyor Koos Verster stated that the technology is performing better than expected, reports Mining Weekly.
