Authorities Give Clearance To Danone Dumex' Milk Formula Products

News: New Zealand's ministry for primary industries has given clearance to all milk formula products manufactured by Danone Dumex, the Malaysian affiliate of French dairy firm Groupe Danone, reports the Straits Times. The clearance comes after a contamination scare forced the company to recall several batches of its infant formula products in August. Danone Dumex had to recall some batches of its infant formula products under the brand name MamilGold PreciNutri Step 2, Dupro Step 2 and Dulac Step 1. However, the ministry announced on August 28 that subsequent tests revealed that there was no Clostridium botulinum in any of the batches concerned.

BMI View: Dairy products are not as well established in Malaysia as in more Westernised markets, although they have been growing in popularity in recent times. Local dairy production supplies much of the market, which has a strong focus on halal-certified goods. Imported processed dairy products also feature in the market.
