News: Netherlands-based global port operator APM Terminals (APMT) has started operations in the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) in the Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The move will allow the construction of a modern, first-class depot to fulfil needs and expectations of shipping lines and cargo owners. It is likely to generate 20 full-time jobs as well as vacancies for around 15 seasonal workers on short-term contracts. The company invested ZAR25mn (US$3mn) in the first phase, which includes various services for dry and reefer containers such as repairs, handling, storage, monitoring and container conversion. A trucking yard will also be operated by APMT from its depot.
APMT is the terminals-operating arm of Danish shipping and oil and gas conglomerate AP Mølller Maersk.
