News: A joint venture (JV) comprising AECOM's Australian subsidiary and Aurecon Design has won a design services contract for the US$1.07bn Moreton Bay rail project in Queensland, Australia, from Australian construction company Thiess. The contract involves designing rail components as well as providing design services for civil and structural works, which includes car parks, stations and access roads. The project, which involves a 7.8-mile dual-track passenger rail line and six new rail stations, will allow residents to commute between the Moreton Bay region and Brisbane. The stations will feature 'kiss and ride' drop off zones, commuter parking, bus connectivity and other facilities. Major construction is likely to start in early 2014. The new line is expected to be operational in 2016.
