News: Eduardo Negri, g eological s tudies d irector with Spanish energy major Repsol , has said that North Africa represents the next big opportunity for shale gas extraction, according to World Oil. In the wake of the North American shale boom, accelerated by the evolution of hydraulic fracturing technology, Negri tipped the likes of Algeria, Tunisia and Libya as being among the next likely spots based on existing geological evidence. 'The current drilling and completion costs are still high in North Africa... This is something that can be worked on if service companies take special effort in preliminary evaluation steps in order to show how they can reduce costs, thinking about massive operations in the future , ' Negri added.
