MSC Adds US Ports To Freeport-Centram Service

News: Swiss shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced that it will introduce the ports of Jacksonville and Savannah to its Freeport-Centram feeder service, reports Transport Weekly. This will provide a direct connection between the US East Coast and Central America. MSC recently reintroduced its Freeport-Centram feeder service in place of its Europe-Centram service.

BMI View: At the country's largest East Coast facility, the Port of New York/New Jersey (NY/NJ), growth is forecast at 4% year-on-year (y-o-y) in 2012, with this port also unable to return to pre-downturn levels. Total tonnage volumes are forecast to reach 145,498mn tonnes. Growth is expected to remain consistent over the medium term, with an annual increase of 4% forecast between 2012 and 2016, to reach 167,329mn tonnes by 2016.
