Maternal Mortality Declined In 2013, Reports Health Ministry
News: Cambodia's health ministry has announced that there were 116 instances of maternal mortality in the country in 2013. The health ministry's figure for maternal mortality in the country is much lower than accepted rates that have been reported by health organisations in the last few years. However, the ministry does not specify whether these 116 cases are for every 100,000 live births, which is a common method of representing such data. Cambodian Health Minister Mam Bun Heng said that 'according to the health ministry's report, the country has nearly achieved its 2015 Millennium Development Goal', reports the Phnom Penh Post. Meanwhile, a 2013 report by the United Nations Population Fund reported that out of 100,000 live births, 250 women died in the country - almost double the figure set in the country's 2015 Millennium Development Goal.
