News: The New Zealand government is planning to introduce a Food Safety and Assurance Advisory Council. The government is planning to provide independent advice to the government on food safety issues through the new council. The move is one of the 29 recommendations of the government inquiry into the whey protein concentrate contamination incident that occurred in 2013. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) director-general will be establishing the council, which will cover operational, policy and regulatory issues across New Zealand's food safety and assurance regime. The MPI is likely to provide NZD250,000 (USD214,768) a year for the Food Safety Assurance Advisory Council.
