Government To Issue National Cyber Security Policy

News: Ghana's government is currently developing a national cyber security policy and strategy to react to security threats that may affect the national security and well-being of internet users, according to Deputy Minister for Communications Victoria Hamah. The government has also signed an agreement with the International Telecommunication Union in early-2013 to help develop a national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT would help in responding to cybercrimes and cyber attacks in an effective manner.

BMI View: The move is aimed at ensuring security of internet subscribers in Ghana. BMI estimates that there will be 509,200 broadband internet subscribers in 2013 and expects the total to rise 171.8% by 2017 to 1.38mn. During this period penetration will rise from 1.9% to 4.9%.
