EE And BT Ink MVNO Deal

News: UK's EE has signed an agreement with local fixed line incumbent BT to provide exclusive mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services for BT, TeleGeography reports. Subject to final contract, the 'multi-year agreement' will further enhance the existing relationship between the two operators. BT will also have to change from its current MVNO partner Vodafone UK, but is stating that customers will experience a seamless transition. BT announced in April 2013 that it had started looking for a partner to push further into the mobile voice sector, and to provide mobile services to both its residential and business customers.

BMI View: The UK telecoms market is mature with high penetration of all services, and a good roll-out of next generation services. As a result of its maturity the UK market has diminished opportunities for subscription growth, and operator strategies reflect this by increasingly focusing on value generation from subscriptions. In the mobile market this means operators are focused on rolling out LTE, with three networks operational from the end of August 2013, as well as VAS such as mobile advertising and payments.
